Name: A Matter of Fate (Fate #1)
Author: Heather Lyons
Oh.My.God, I know this series is going to be the end of me, I’m sure it will kill me painfully and very slowly. It wasn’t easy to read this book, if I’m being completely honest, because it was so goddamn frustrating. Don’t get me wrong, I really liked it. I liked the plot, liked the twists and the emotions it awoke in me, but damn it!, I felt like screaming so many times. Let me explain.
A Matter of Fate is the first book of the Fate series, it introduces you to Chloe Lilywhite’s life. She’s not a common teenage girl, she’s part of a race of beings called Magicals, a Creator, to be more specific. She has all her life planned out thanks to Fate. She knows what life has planned for her, what she has to do after she Ascends. But in the meantime, life, or well, Fate, has not one but two surprises for her. Jonah is literally the guy of her dreams. She met him when they were kids while she was dreaming and spent almost all of her life sharing happy moments with him in her dreams. She loves him, she always has. So, when the guy shows up one day at her school, her world rocks, literally. But that doesn’t stop there. Remember there were 2 surprises? Well, here’s the other one. Kellan, Jona’s twin (A FREAKING TWIN!!!!!!). She can stop feeling an attraction towards him, she’s always drawn to him when he’s near, as she is to his brother. But boy troubles are not her only worries. History and Fate collide and it threatens her life and the life of those she loves.
“Know that I love you. That I always will.”
It was like he was saying goodbye.
Now my thoughts on the story. I thought the plot was pretty interesting, the way everything evolves, not just the characters, but the story itself. This is a very Emotional story ;), it will bring out every bit of anger and happiness, you have in you. But it is not in a bad way, I mean, yes, the book is BEYOND frustrating, but it keeps you interested, it kept me wanting more, needing more. Anyone who knows me, knows what a huge hater I am when it comes to other guys and this love triangle just kills me. I have a favorite, I picked him from the start. And I won’t lie, I felt really protective of him and I even felt betrayed more the once. I don’t mind love triangles that much because seriously, every single love story has it nowadays, but I don’t think I’ve felt this frustrated in a while. *sigh* I need to keep reading because, even though I’ve been a mess with my emotions, I need to know what’s going to happen. Not only with the love triangle but with everything. I’m too into the story now.
LeAnn, this is all on you.
Now, let me tell you a bit about the characters: first, there’s Chloe. She is, like I said before, a Creator. She’s the one who can create and destroy. Thanks to her neglecting parents, she’s always been out of the loop about what she’s supposed to do. She knows what the result of her actions should be, but she can’t figure out what she needs to do to accomplish it without being a constant disappointment. But now, she has the chance to learn new things. So, even though everything is threatening her safety and her sanity, I believe she manages to take that little information she has so far and make it count. She has a big heart (obviously) and she’ll do whatever she needs to do to keep the ones she loves safe. I liked her as a female main character, although I was pretty angry with her a bunch of times.
Next is Kellan. From now on, you’ll figure out who my favorite is. And no, it is NOT Kellan. Yes, the guy is sweet to Chloe and I can tell she loves her but I can’t stand her being with him. I believe he’s a good guy, there’s nothing he would do to hurt either Chloe or Jonah, not on purpose, but my heart is fixed on Jonah.
Now, Jonah. Jo-nah. I was soo anxious about meeting him, I kept asking “when are you going to show up? When are you going to talk to Chloe? When are you going to do something?!”. Yep, I had to wait and that was agonizing. He is OMG. I loved him from the start, even if I didn’t know him. He is sweet, swoon worthy, smart, honest, reliable, focused, loyal, and soooo much more. He felt like home to Chloe and I believe he is exactly that, her home. There’s an unbreakable connection between them,
“Chloe don’t you know, haven’t you always known? My heart belongs with you. I’m here for you.”
But there is also a strong connection between Kellan and Chloe only I don’t think it’s as strong as Jonah’s and Chloe’s connection.
I can’t wait to read more.
