Book review: Hotshot Doc by R.S. Grey

Dr. Russell has a bad reputation around our hospital. The scrub techs say he’s cold-blooded, the nurses say he’s too cocky for his own good, and the residents say he’s the best surgeon in the world—really, just a swell guy!—on the off chance he’s within earshot.

I try to avoid him and his temper at all costs. It’s just as easy to admire his sexy, grip-it-while-he’s ravishing-you hair and chiseled jaw from a healthy distance, preferably from the other end of the hallway half-hidden behind a plant.

Unfortunately, my plan crumbles when my trusty ol’ boss decides to swap his white coat for a Hawaiian shirt. His retirement leaves me with two terrible options: switch specialties and spend months retraining, or take an open position as Dr. Russell’s surgical assistant.

That means I have to stand near him in the OR for hours on end and anticipate his every need without letting his biting words and bad attitude intimidate me. Oh, and as if that’s not difficult enough, my silly crush on him—the one I’ve tried to stomp on until it disappears—might just be reciprocated.

It’s fine.
I’m fine.

I take my job seriously. There will be no smoldering bedroom eyes across the operating table, no angry almost-kisses in the storage closet. (Well, no more of those.)

What’s the phrase? An apple a day keeps the doctor away?
Maybe I should go for a whole damn bushel.

Daniela’s review

I always enjoy Rachel’s books, they are entertaining and funny and just so damn good… and this is no exception. I can’t say it’s my favorite, but it was a really good read.

In this story we have two POV, one from Bailey, a surgical assistant, and Matt a surgeon. Bailey is the kind of girl everyone likes. She is nice, funny and great at her job. Matt on the other hand is the surgeon everyone hates. He’s super cranky and mean to everyone, he never talks to anyone if he can avoid it and he’s even made people cry. And even though he’s the best surgeon in the medical center, no one wants to work with him. So of course, life manages to make these two work together Bailey, is this super sweet girl that’s doing her best to take care of her little sister, so when she finds out she might be jobless pretty soon, she decides to give the devil himself a chance, not only because she needs the job, but because she wants to prove him she’s the best person for it. Matt is just so deep into his work, he has absolutely no time for trivial or stupid things. He’d rather be called any name you can think of if it means it will keep everyone away. But a

Rachel has a really amazing way of writing stories. She has a super funny and unique voice when it comes to her books that always, always gets my attention. I can’t really say no to any of her books. The dynamic between the main characters is simply one of the best things you can find, because they’re awkward but funny, and always swoon-worthy. And they always feel real. Like, I can totally relate to some of these characters’ reactions towards some situations, and isn’t that what we’re looking for in these kinds of books? To feel like: “yeah, that’d be me!”

This is a light read, something you can read in a matter of days. I enjoyed every word and every page very much. I’m only giving it 4 stars because it didn’t feel as amazing (even though it was) as other books I’ve read by her. Like I said, it might not be my favorite, but it’s definitely a must read if you’re looking to spend some time with an awkward girl, a hot guy with a tough shell but a really sweet and soft side, and a funny 14 y-o.

Laura’s review

My Rom-Com queen has done it again. There’s not a single R. S. Grey book that I don’t like. I love them, they are genuinely funny, which is my thing. I’m all about the awkward-funny situations she creates.

In this case we have Bailey (I’ll admit I kept picturing Grey’s Anatomy Dr. Bailey, I couldn’t help it and I know that’s her last name, I don’t care) you know this girl is trying to be a parent and a sister, and it’s a tough thing, she works hard and plays soft. She has no time for shenanigans.

On the other corner we have Dr. Russell, he is a Greek God embodied, smart, knows what he is doing and doesn’t take shit from anyone. That’s why all the people at the Hospital are afraid of him. Also, he’s a dick.

So, let the battle begin. Who will win the other? Will they kill each other? Will they end up together?

I suggest you read this book and find out. 🙂
