Title: Under Different Stars (Kricket #1)
Author: Amy Bartol
“You cannot thrive under the wrong stars, Kricket.”
I don’t why I didn’t read this book the moment it came out. I think I was a little bitter because this released before Iniquity, the last book in the Premonition series, but that was a dumb excuse. Why? Because this bookwas amazing! I went into it blind, not knowing what to expect and that was a great decision.
Once again, Amy Bartol blew me away with her characters and world building. She even created slang terms! This woman’s imagination knows no bounds.
So a little about the story. It’s about this girl named Kricket who grew up thinking she was human. Well, her world is about to do a complete 180 when two groups of guys track her down and start talking nonsense about belonging on another planet, that she’s part of some prophecy. That would certainly ruin anyone’s day but she has Trey by her side. If you are familiar with Amy’s writing, then you know she is an expert when it comes to swoon-worthy guys and Trey is no exception. He’s right up there with Reed (I know, it sounds crazy, but it’s true. Trust me).
“You can never be a temporary situation for me, Kricket. I know that once I have you, I’ll never be able to let you go.”
She goes from being a nobody to someone important, where people want to be her friend, want to use her, and people that want her dead. There is never a dull moment in this story. It grips you from the beginning and before you know it, it’s over and you’re cursing the world because the next book isn’t out yet! But I have a feeling the wait will be worth it.
“‘He was telling us that your voice will give comfort when the night becomes its blackest,’ he replies, ‘And I’ll protect that voice with my body, my mind, and my spirit… because without it, I’m alone in the dark.'”
