Title: Beautiful Disaster (Beautiful #1)
Author: Jaime McGuire
Daniela’s rating: 5 stars
The new Abby Abernathy is a good girl. She doesn’t drink or swear, and she has the appropriate number of cardigans in her wardrobe. Abby believes she has enough distance from the darkness of her past, but when she arrives at college with her best friend, her path to a new beginning is quickly challenged by Eastern University’s Walking One-Night Stand.
Travis Maddox, lean, cut, and covered in tattoos, is exactly what Abby needs—and wants—to avoid. He spends his nights winning money in a floating fight ring, and his days as the ultimate college campus charmer. Intrigued by Abby’s resistance to his appeal, Travis tricks her into his daily life with a simple bet. If he loses, he must remain abstinent for a month. If Abby loses, she must live in Travis’s apartment for the same amount of time. Either way, Travis has no idea that he has met his match.
This book introduces you to Abby Abernathy and Travis Maddox. Both are some troubled kids, both have been through a lot, so of course, when they met it was kind of messy.
The book is told from Abby’s POV. It shows you a girl with a great personality, she’s strong, because life has made her so, she’s beyond stubborn and she has a good best friend, America, who will defend her till the end. After having to deal with her crappy life for a long time, she decided to move and go to college so she could get away from her past. That’s when she meets Travis… Oh Travis! He’s the good guy disguised as a bad boy. Yeah, he has a little bit of that too, but deep inside, he’s a good guy. So, they meet, she sets everything straight (she’s not one of his bimbos) and there won’t be anything more than a friendship.
Their friendship is practically forced when they make a bet, one that Abby loses, and she has to spend a whole month living in Travis and Shepley’s apartment. Each day they spend together is a day they become closer and closer. They built a friendship that’s just so good. They trust each other completely, they get along like no one else and they care for each other. But they’re constantly reminding people they’re just friends. Until they’re not. And when they (especially Abby) accept that.. it’s so amazing. I love how they are with each other, you just know they’re comfortable with the other. They fit just right.
The story is wonderful. I loved it. Travis became one of my favorite book boyfriends. He’s super intense and passionate and you know he just wants what’s best for Abby, and he wants to be what’s best for her. So he tries to do everything to be just that. Abby on the other hand, she’s stubborn but she knows what she wants and what she wants and need is an easy life, where the name “lucky 13” doesn’t exist.
I’ve read this book twice, and both times I enjoyed/loved every single word. The story is well written, well paced and AMAZING.
