Book Review: Becoming Rain (Burying Water #2) by K.A. Tucker

Title: Becoming Rain (Burying Water #2)

Author: K.A. Tucker

Rating: rating-4.5

Becoming Rain is another great installment to the Burying Water series. In the first book, we don’t really get a chance to know Luke Boone. All we know is that he may be involved with his uncle’s not so legal operation. Honestly, I wasn’t too curious about getting to know him, but I’m so glad I did.

Luke was practically raised by his uncle Rust after his father abandoned him and his family. Rust was all too happy to take over the fatherly role and Luke worships him. I really liked Luke. He’s charming and would give the shirt off his back to someone that would need it. He has a good heart, but he’s a little naive and far too trusting. He’s been working hard his entire life to accomplish one thing- take over his uncle’s garage. But he got much more than he bargained for.

Enter Clara Bertelli, or Rain Martines , a cop that just got her first break into going undercover for the FBI. She’s determined to bring down the scumbags that are hurting and killing innocent people all just to gain a profit. When she first sets eyes on her target Luke Boone, she only see a thief and a criminal. What she never expected was to fall for him.

“But that’s the thing with so many of the worst kinds of criminals. They don’t wear signs, they don’t don a uniform. They’re hiding in plain sight.”

Rain is a strong female character and that’s what I love about K.A. Tucker’s writing style- she always writes badass females. I can’t imagine how difficult it would be to go undercover and pretend to be someone else and seduce a man to tell her all his secrets. It’s definitely a job for someone with nerves of steal and quick wit. But she’s still human and she’s not immune to Luke’s charm, which let’s face it, I don’t think any woman would be.

This book was packed with suspense and enough drama and intrigue to keep me reading until I finished it at 1 in the morning. I was expecting more of a blow out at the climax, but the ending was definitely satisfying. I would recommend this series to anyone looking for some romance along with mystery and suspense.
